NetAid World Class

NetAid World Class is an interactive educational activity that teaches young students ages 8-14 how obstacles relating to poverty can keep children from reaching their dreams. More importantly, students are challenged to turn what they've learned into action, planting the first seeds of lifelong advocacy on behalf of the 125 million children not in school around the world.

Playing the Game

Each student takes on the identity of a real child living in Tamil Nadu, India and experiences many of the challenges that children throughout the developing world face in accessing education. With each spin of the game's multi-colored wheel, events can happen suddenly-a grandparent falls ill, a parent is suddenly unemployed or a school is constructed nearby-that can open or close the door to a child's education. The object of the game is for students to stay in school long enough to attain their dream job. On the journey toward their dream, players quickly realize the reality of growing up in abject poverty. The game ends when a few students have overcome the obstacles to go to school and have achieved their dream career. A pivotal part of NetAid World Class occurs after game-play is over. Students discuss what they can do to help kids in poor areas of the world go to school. Educators help guide this process by challenging students to come up with their own ideas and encouraging them to turn their ideas into concrete action. With additional support from the NetAid World Class web site, both educators and students can learn more about global issues and how they can take action.

The NetAid World Class board game is not currently available, but the online version can be downloaded for free.
